I'm amused that someone took the pain counted meticulously how many times (twice to be exact) I wrote nasty things about Malaysia and asking whether I'm a Malaysian or American. I'm even more amused when the commenter even used the user name of "ihateyouben", called me a liar, and asked me "don't be like the Christian girl who gives a terrible speech". Several of my friends have asked me to just delete the nasty comments and don't waste time on it.
I'm neither offended with the comments nor I'm feeling guilty for writing nasty things about Malaysia. I'll not delete the nasty comments in my blog and I'll stand firm of what I wrote about this and this.
It is factual that the "Allah" court case in Malaysia was triggered when the then Home Minister of Malaysia prohibited the usage of "Allah" by the Catholic weekly Herald on grounds of national security and to avoid misunderstanding and confusion among Muslims (The Star, 1 Jan 2010).
It is factual that there was over 12 hours power breakout in Penang and the then TNB's Penang General Manager has said "the fault was certainly not due to human error" (The Star, 3 Feb 2010).
Most important, I'll not stop writing things I feel strongly about even if it is nasty to some.
It is factual that Singapore, which is about 478 times smaller in size, 8 years younger and without natural resources as compare to Malaysia is to overtake Malaysia as the 3rd largest economy of Southeast Asia by end of 2010. In response to Singapore success, an ex-prime minister of Malaysia said "Singapore will overtake Malaysia because its focus is just on economic growth and there is no social restructuring goal such as fair distribution of wealth between races as we have in Malaysia” (Bloomberg, 11 Nov 2010). My own opinion: what is the social restructuring the ex-prime minister of Malaysia is talking about when hundred of thousands of Malaysians left their family and country, flocking to Singapore, which is 478 times smaller and without natural resources, for job?
Don't be like the proverbial ostrich with the head in sand by simply ignoring the problem and worse of all expecting other to play ignorant and only paint rosy picture all around just to make certain people, organization and country look artificially good. Say NO to the Ostrich Syndrome!
I believe majority of my visitors are discerning readers with strong analytical mind of their own. They'll not simply accepted what other said and written without doing their own due diligence process. I hope you're in the majority and most of all I hope you don't suffer from the Ostrich Syndrome :P
I hope it is not too late to wish you Happy New Year 2011!
p/s Photo of the ostrich was taken by me at the Johor Zoo in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
