My Thankgiving Moon

This year mid-autumn festival (中秋節) will falls on 22 September, which is tomorrow. It is a grand festival celebrated by Chinese dating back over 3,000 years ago and held every 15th day of the eight lunar month in the Chinese calender. Many mythical stories were associated with the origin of this festival. The mythical story that captivated my heart most since I was a kid was the romantic legend of Chang'er, a beautiful maiden who swallowed an immortal pill so it will not fall into the hands of an evil king. After that, she was floated to the moon, became the moon goddess and eternally separated from her loving husband Hou Yi. Peoples were then remembered her sacrifices through offering prayer, which eventually became the moon aka mid-autumn festival.

One of the important goodies associated with mid-autumn festival was the moon cake. Well, I think you can easily Google about moon cake to know what it is ;) In fact, there was no moon cake left for me to photograph as all accidentally ended in my tummy before I could reach my dslr :P However, it is a lucky day for me as a gorgeous full moon greeted me from high above the serene blue sky when I step out from my office building at dusk. The moon awesome appearance not only reminds me that tomorrow is the wonderful mid-autumn festival but most important to be thankful to peoples who made sacrifices so we live better :)

p/s This photo was taken at Beach Road, Singapore using Canon EOS 7D with EF 70 - 300 mm IS USM lens by handheld. Could you see the cute jade rabbit in the gorgeous full moon? ;)
