I hate flash because they always cast a harsh shadow and killed the natural beauty of my subjects. I hate the intense sunlight even more as it is the mother of photography killer by casting a deep ugly shadow and made even the most gorgeous babe looks dull :P
However, I must be absolutely crazy using Canon's most powerful flash (Speedlite 580EX II) when the sunlight was at its afternoon peak to shoot a gorgeous babe!!! Another great challenge of shooting a beauty under the intense sunlight was even the tiny specks of sweat will be clearly visible and made the gorgeous looking face becomes grime and oily.
It is really bizarre that the solution to killed the ugly shadow when shooting under intense sunlight was to used a flash!!! Well, definitely not the camera's build-in flash as I had tried and failed miserably. You need an external flash that able to provide light intensity control and adjustable flash head to correctly exposed the foreground and background. This photo was taken with the sun positioned behind the gorgeous babe and you can see the harsh shadow of the barricade along the jetty. However, the external flash helped to decreased exposure of the background and make the babe's gorgeous face standout from the shadow. This photographic technique is what the pro called fill flash :) Oop, I'm not the pro okay :D
I put the fill flash technique to the extreme test by positioned the gorgeous babe with the intense sunlight directly behind her and in an open area with nothing to take cover including my dslr. The external flash saved my day from her slap as no deep shadow was visible from her face, particularly under her gorgeous chin :P Thankfully she didn't fall into the water also as the river was infected with sneaking brutal crocodiles :D
All right, my fill flash test report completed and I found a shadow killer at last!!! Special thanks to the gorgeous babe. Her name is Hazel if you badly want to know but don't ask me for her mobile number lol :P All photos taken at Firefly Valley Leisure Park in Kota Tinggi, Johor, Malaysia.
